Left at 7:30 am with a cold windy day here in OC. Forecasts called for a windy day with gusts up to 60 mph on the passes, which I had to climb. Last night I went to check the tires on the trailer and low and behold, someone screwed around with one of my spares and the valve stem was sliced. I still had another spare, so I’ll fix it when I return.
Talked with Johnny to get some tips on pulling a bigger trailer and he set me straight. talked with Larry for some additional tips. I had no problems with the new toy – after a while, forgot I was towing…
Paul and Roylene left a little latter and we ended up hooking up at a gas station in Baker before heading into Death Valley. On my way in I stopped at the Badlands for a break and photos.
This route was a very easy and quick way to get to Furnace Creek. We at the Furnace Creek Inn by 2:00 p.m. having a drink by the pool. My room wasn’t ready yet at Furnace Creek Ranch, so I took off for a quick loop through 20 Mule Canyon before checking into my room.
The Ranch is no Inn, but it isn’t bad. I’m staying with the people where Paul and Roylene are with Royalty, and probably the youngest ones there!
So far, a beautifulplace this time of year. And thanks for the comments….
p.s. if you click on “View with PicLens” you can see the comments I wrote for the pictures
Looks fabulous! I’m not such a great sleuth this time, I had you arriving at around 5 pm EST…maybe that is 2. Still having my first cup of java this a.m., so not computing. Are you going to SPOT your sight-seeing runs? Hope so – it’s fun to watch – vicarous pleasures, all. I’m envious of you lounging at the pool – there’s still some snow on the ground although we’ve at least had sun. Enjoy – have a blast!!
I guess Steve’s SPOT is set to EST – but if your looking at it, it would be 5:00 p.m.
So maybe it is correct?
Right now your SPOT time corresponds to my time, so EST it is. To make things MORE confusing, we spring ahead this weekend 🙂 OK, I’m off to correlate your ride right now with your GoogleEarth routes….nerd to the end! Have fun, be safe on those washed out roads and take lots of pics!!
Great pics for the first day. Be safe out there while you explore today.
Will do. With all the ranis they had lately, we have heard that some of the trails may be washed out, so it is off to Ranger Rick to check it out first.
Great pixs Jimmy V. The weather couldn’t be more perfect and it looks like you are all having alot of FUN!!!! Off to Fed Ex……
Ooh, looks like you are having fun exploring on the dirt bike. Too much fun, I will punish you by leaving you a huge stack of contracts in your in-box!
Have fun, keep us up to date with photos!!!
Wow nice ride I see your almost back been following and working on bikes wish I was riding instead of working. Looks like a good day ride, did that trail just end or did it just go to a small path at the end? have fun and can’t wait for pics.
Seems to be a problem for posting on day two. What awesome pictures! I especially like the self portrait in the mirror of the bike!
And Day 3 also – don’t know cause Day 1 you can post comments. I’ll try and figure out,but may not be able to on the road. Just leave comments on Day one if it keeps happening.
JV; Great pictures! You lucked out with great weather. I agree the Ranch is ok. Reminds me of an old apartment complex in Glendale where we lived when I was 6.
Love the photo caption of you, Roylene and ‘your Paul’! BFFs haha!!
My scientists here (Bob & Liz) have determined that the skeleton is not a coyote. It has hooves and big molars – so most likely a mule deer or a small sheep. Couldn’t see any horns, so the guess is that is is more likely the deer. Pretty cool. Pics for day three were great. Have a great time at the wedding.
Interesting. I should have put something next to it for size perspective. It was pretty small – maybe 3 1/2 feet long. How long do they think it was dead?
Day 4 let me guess short ride nice day then the drinking starts long night day 5 starts with a hang over from the end of day 4 but nothing that a pot of coffee can’t cure. tell am I close at all?
